There is a lot that goes into a well maintained, healthy lawn. We offer a bespoke lawn care package to our customers, to ensure that you get only the very best results. Below, are just a few of the things that we can do to give you the lawn of your dreams.
Aerating your lawn once a year, is probably the single best thing you can do. It relieves soil compaction, improves drainage, allows nutrients to access the roots whilst giving them room to grow stronger and deeper. We would aerate the lawn once per year, normally in early spring, but a garden with particularly heavy clay, can benefit from an autumn/winter aeration too.
Scarification is a process that removes a layer of 'thatch' which could have accumulated over years and years of mowing, and other organic matter, settling at the base of the blades of grass. A thin layer of thatch is good for a lawn, but too much can cause problems. It is best removed mechanically, through a process called scarification. Dethatching the lawn allows moisture and nutrients to pass down into the roots of the grass, therefore making it more full and green. It also does wonders for controlling moss. We scarify the lawn, directly after Aerating.
Lawn weeds appear in even the best kept lawns, they are almost inevitable. Weeds are more common in an unhealthy lawn, and they sap nutrients away from the lawn, which just leads to more weeds appearing. We can apply selective weed killers to get rid of them, allowing the grass to flourish.
Moss develops in dark & damp areas, like under a tree, in constant shade, waterlogged soil etc. It can be mechanically removed with a rake, but once removed it will return without proper maintenance. We can take care of this for you, and make moss a thing of the past.
Grass, as tough as it can be, does die. Weeds like to pop up in the areas where the grass is either thin, or gone completely. We like to reseed all of our lawns after they have been properly aerated and scarified at the start of spring. The seeds germinate in a few days, and within a couple of weeks, you will find your lawn to be restored to its full potential.
There are several times a year when you should be fertilising your lawn. We recommend 5 times per year. Using the correct fertiliser, at the right time, can be the difference between an OK lawn, and a great lawn. The added benefit of fertilisers, is that they make the grass more durable through the dry weather, and more resilient in the winter. They will also make the lawn greener, and healthier all year round, by promoting solid root growth.
Weed Grasses often appear in a pristine lawn. They have often self seeded, after being blown in from either a field, or other unmanaged grassland. Sadly, in the UK we aren't allowed to use any specific chemical treatments to control them, but we can either manage the spread through good practice or look to remove the specific grass manually and replace it with alternative breeds.
Good grass starts with good soil. Adding fertiliser helps the grass grow and remain strong in the short term, but a soil with the correct microbial activity is equally important. We can apply a range of liquid soil improvers, to help fill the soil with micronutrients, vitamins and alginates, providing a much better soil structure for the lawn to really thrive on.
Because every lawn in different, it is very hard to provide quotes over the phone. We are happy to visit, and provide you with a no obligation, bespoke lawn care plan.
